Plain Language: Are you with us?

A plain language standard could soon be a thing in Australia.

The International Plain Language Working Federation is behind the initiative to implement a plain language standard internationally, with Australia to be the first cab off the rank.

This is great news for you and me as consumers of health and business services. Plain language gives increased confidence and certainty in our decisions—whether they relate to finance, health, aged care or law. For businesses, plain language saves time and money, and strengthens customer relations.

Plain language practitioners in Australia are taking the exciting first steps to get the standard in place. We’re now writing to stakeholders and peak bodies seeking support for a March 2019 submission to Standards Australia—keep an eye on your in-box!

The growing empirical evidence suggests that plain language works for everyone—young and old, experts and novices.
